I've been getting those clumps for years. I'm in my 50's now and no longer have tonsils! They weren't surgically removed ...they just dissolved when in my 40's!!! In spite of the lack of tonsils, I still cough up those icky clumps. I seems to get them after a 'tired' spell. I've asked doctors in the past and was never able to get a true diagnosis. I was told the it was a tonsils irritation but I no longer have tonsils and still get them! So, go figure! I don't believe they're anything to worry about though... Perhaps gargling could make a difference! It certainly could be with the bad breath associated with it!
