Hello my name is Andrea and my son Cameron has Degeorge syndrome. We go to genetics clinic once a year to find out more information about his condition. Degeorge can affect children at varying degrees. I know I have searched the internet and read books over and over to gather information about this. This is a common syndrome, that people don't really hear about. Some people even go undiaganoised the symtoms are so mild. Others however have severe problems. My son was born with a ventrical septem defect which is characteristic of the syndrome. Also children afflected with this have certain facial features associated with the syndrome. For the average person to look at my son, they would never know or suspect anything was wrong with him. He had open heart surgery when he was only 4 years old and recovered great. We recently found out that kidney problems affect children of this syndrome also. If you want to talk more about it you can email me directly. [email protected] I hope your sister's baby is fine, and will not suffer from this syndrome, but please tell her that things could be much much worse.
