I am 34 year old female, should be at a healthy prime, a year ago I was diagnosed with Grave's disease, an autoimmune thryoid condition which causes hyperthyroidism. I have been treated for almost a yr now, and while some of the symptoms have subsided, one seems to continuously worsen, the chest pain... In describing the pain there's an almost constant dull pain in the left side of my chest, sometimes. (not too often) radiating to my neck and left arm, accompanied with nausea, and shortness of breath. I've had repeated EKG's when the, "flare up," occurs, all have returned negative results. I am quite concerned since both my parents have been treated for heart conditions, my mother, also had Grave's disease, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which claimed her life at age 50, and my father has had several heart attacks and is age 57. My Dr doesn't seem too concerned, and is actually, quite dismissive, passisng them off as chest pain due to muscle spasms caused by the hyperthyroidism. Are there any further steps I should take, or is his opinion a comfortable enough one to ignore the pain? I should mention he has given me a prescription to help regulate the heartbeat, atenolol 100 mg 1 x daily.
