pain under rib cage

I am 24 years old, for the past 10 or so years i have had occasional pain in my right side directly under my rib cage. It comes and goes, but it has been hurting nonstop this month. i have no health insurance, and since the pain is not unbearable, i havent made myself go to the doctor. the pain ranges from mild to medium and i would describe it as sharp pangs that are made worse by heavy breathing or lying down. ive heard these are symptoms of liver or gallbladder problems, or inflamed tissue in the ribs. does anybody else have any idea?
