My 5 year old grandson had a chest xray recently to determine if he had pneumonia, and the radiologist advised that his review of this film and one previous taken for a similar reason, indicated the presence of a right-sided aortic arch. My research as a lay person reveals this to be a form of congenital heart defect, often associated with a vascular ring around the trachea and esophagus which always requires cardiovascular surgery to divide the ring. Is this always the case. If so what treatment should be sought? And where is the best Hospital in the Boston, MA area for this type of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery ? Also, since my son was born with a congenital heart defect, I am curious to learn if there is evidence of genetic causes that family members should be aware exist. Thank you in advance for any information. Concerned grandfather.
