I know just what you mean. Similar going on with me. It started a few months ago, after a good back workout. Pain was in same area and it felt as if there was a steele rod going from my chest through to my back. Dull kind of pain too. I first noticed it the day after while leaning down to put on my shoe. Went away after a week or so of taking it easy. Sometimes, for the past while, when stretching my chest it would crack a bit. Even more recently my chest cracks when i sneeze, hurting a little too. Just happened a few minutes ago. I can't say i really like it. You?
