Tanya, I read your post and can totally sympathize with you. I am sorry you have had to go through this. :(
I have suffered from a chronic stabbing back pain on my left side for a long time. I have been told it is scar tissue by a physical therapist, something "out of place" by a Chiro, and muscle spasms by my doctor. I don't think it is heart related. It is something I've had to endure off and on for probably 15 years.
I'm 37 years old. Most of my life I have been overweight and out of shape. Earlier this year I lost most of my weight and got in shape. During that time, I had VERY little back pain, although I did have this stabbing issue twice. However, that was very little compared to around 4 times per month as always before.
About 4 years ago I had a breast reduction because the doctors said it might relieve some of my neck and back pain. It did relieve some, but not all.
I would like to know what exactly causes this, and how to fix it. My pain doesn't seem to be triggered by anything in particular - I just wake up with it.
The only thing that seems to speed up the recovery process is alternating heat and ice, and applying direct (and somewhat painful) pressure to the area for a period of time, then releasing for a period of time.
I know in my heart that if I strengthened my back muscles again by getting in shape, I wouldn't have to endure this problem so often. But that is easier said than done. I feel as though I'm cursed with a bad back. When I have this pain, it affects my mood and overall outlook on life. It has interferred with my activities throughout my life and I'm sick of it.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I welcome them.
