I have had the same symptoms for years now and the Dr's tell me the same and always give me a pill for it. I have a hiatus hernia and that is often a cause of reflux and other complications, but yes, if you have a hiatus hernia then the pains in your chest, arm and shoulder are very likely to be a direct cause of that. It's quite suprising being as though the hernia is at the entrance to the stomach, but the different sites of pain can be in some rather unusual places (including the back) If you haven't been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia then I suggest you go for an official diagnosis. You have a choice between a barium x-ray and an endoscopy (camera down your throat). It's not pleasant I know, but if you wish, you can be under general anasthetic during the procedure.
Hope this helps!
