Hi Paul,
I've been experiencing a pain on the left side of my chest since early march this year.
The whole thing started off with tightness in the chest, then it developed into heart like palpitations and about 2 weeks later I started to get chest pains, and one night the pain got worse. So I went to the hospital, did the ECG, they took blood and monitored my heart the whole night.
Everything appeared to be fine, after 2 days lying in the hospital my symtoms went away. According to the physician that attended to me, I had something called GERD. However when I looked up the symptoms of Gerd I did not seem to have them.
Anyways he gave me Nexium ( Gastro medication ) to take and it seemed to sort the problem out but then the pain came back a week later. The thing is the palpitation feeling and pain seemed to never go away and the feeling is always worse at night.
Again they did the ECG and everything appeared fine and the doctor said I'm too young to have anything wrong with the heart. They decided to do a endoscopy and found a stomach bacterial infection, (H Pylori). Gave me antibiotics and continued Nexium which took the pain away but I still have that palpitation feeling on the left side of the chest. Which seems to last sometime longer then 5 hours at a time and occurs daily.
The doc reckons it's the 2 nerves above your stomach and just below the rib cage ( Situated at the end of the osephagis ) that is spasming and causing the palpitation feeling in that area.
I've tried changing my eating habits, I only drink water and I'm still getting this discomfort.
I will be going back to the pyshician in about 2 weeks if the problem still persists, i'm starting a excersice program and gonna try lose about 6 kgs. To see if it makes a difference.
I currently weigh 100kgs and am 6"2' tall, so i'm not really overweight for my height.
