I've been under the weather ever since I returned from a sojourn in England this past summer.
Symptoms were first a dry cough along with some shortness of breath (not always with exertion, but often times made worse by such exertion). I also had some chest pains.
Had all the normal tests run--ECG, EKG, pulmonary function tests, etc. All were quite normal. Some doctors argued that symptoms may be related to anxiety. Have also had difficulty swallowing. Went to the emergency room at one point due to shortness of breath problems.
Went to see ENT and finally, GI who believe that some of my issues are related to GERD. Put on Prevacid, but did not seem to help any of the symptoms. Also had an endoscopy performed, which showed some mild esophagitis. Am thinking as well of having a manometry test to determine if chest pain is due to esophogeal spasm.
During this whole time, also have had significant stomach pain, particularly towards the bottom of the ribcage. Ultrasound did not present any gallbladder or kidney issues.
Last week, after having accidentally swallowed a bit too much of my Nexium, I have been experiencing some significant chest pain (although I do not think that the two are related), along with burning. Little exertion or even rest can produce the shortness of breath and/or worsen the chest pain. Chest pain is burning; and quite annoying. Does not seem to be anything cardiac (or maybe?), as the tests (at rest) come out normal and much of the pain comes either at rest or with very little exertion.
Do you think that I should have a stress test done as well? if my symptoms are occurring at rest or only after very little exertion, is there still a possibility that is heart related.
my age: 28, 5'11, around 135#. I have a rather sedentary job; know that I should exercise more.
Any advice/guidance? This has all become very annoying.
