I recently had sharp pains in the centre and right side of my chest which were made worse by any stretching, lifting or bending. My doctor told me that it was a condition known as costochondritis, which is inflamation of the cartilidge which joins the ribcage to the chest. It was treated by rest and taking painkillers containing an anti-inflamatory agent e.g. ibuprofen. The condition cleared up within a couple of weeks. Hope this is of some use to you.
