re-occuring chest pain

Over the last ten years I have had problems with chest pain. I have even been rushed to the emergency and told everything was OK, except for the pain. I had a doctor tell me it was a form of artheritus in the chest cavity. (I never felt comfortable with that statement). The pain is only on the left side and unlike angina I don't feel pressure, I feel the opposite, a balloon effect. Like a bubble that wants to pop. I even get some numbness on my left arm. The last 2 days it has been terrible. Has anyone else had/heard of such a thing. Thanks
