In July, 2001, I had pneumonia and while at the doctors office because the way I was breathing he ordered an EKG and the results showed Atrial Fribilation. While in the hospital, I had an Echocardiogram and it showed that I have a moderate to severe, leaning toward the severe side, leak. I've gone through the cardiversion and was shocked 5 times trying to get my heart back to a normal rythym......didn't work so now I am on heart medication.
Last week I had another echocardiogram and it showed a slight enlargement of the atrial valve from the valve leak. Surgery was suggested to repair the valve. My heart is functioning strong and I feel that things are in my favor, but I can't help feeling a little scared. If this goes as expected, when my valve returns to a normal size, my doctor told me that we may be able to try the cardioversion again and there would be a good chance it would work this time.
If that is the case, I could be pretty much freed of having to take medication and not have to worry so much about developing worse heart problems.
Does any one know someone who has had this valve repaired? I would like some more information if possible.
Thanks
